Karren, Terry and Lisa Besso
Terry Besso worked in custom packaging since his boyhood, following in his father’s footsteps. Louis Besso opened Pakon Industries, a custom packaging warehouse in the early ’50s. After that family-owned business was sold, Terry considered other career options.
Not wanting to waste years of experience in custom packaging, Karren, Terry’s wife, decided to open her own packaging business putting Terry in charge of design and manufacturing. It grew from there, with SPS initially offering only distribution services.
Today the company manufactures custom packaging products from a 90,000 square-foot warehouse in Newark, California. SPS has five trucks available for daily deliveries, owns all of its machines and tools, and has established very strong relationships with area vendors who provide raw materials on 24-hour notice.
Bottom line: SPS is a capable manufacturer ready to meet your demands.
Karren Besso, president, works hand-in-hand with Terry Besso, vice president. Their eldest daughter Lisa Besso Matthews joined the company as vice president, business development in 2008. She oversees customer relations and product support. As a young girl, she too worked in the warehouse and office at Pakon Industries. Getting paper-cuts from a young age, Lisa has corrugated paper in her blood! She understands the team approach SPS takes with each and every client. She has a background in public relations and marketing, with a B.A. in mass communication from California State University, Hayward, and an M.A., ABD, from San Jose State University.
