Military Specifications

Do you speak MIL-SPEC? We do at SPS. Our chief engineer has studied this language for more than 30 years.

Okay MIL-STD, MIL-SPEC or even Mil Spec isn’t really a language, but it is code for military specifications for industry standards set by the United States Department of Defense. These standards aim to reduce costs and improve operational effectiveness.

In other words, it’s the government’s way of explaining how to build specific parts, machines or other widgets purchased by government agencies and prime contractors. To be honest, it can be complicated. Numbers, codes, requirements… it can be an exhaustive process that must be followed perfectly in order to win bids and successful complete projects.

Our chief engineer, Paul Vieira has studied military packaging for more than 30 years. He knows the codes and understands how to correctly interpret what is required to complete the job.

“Trust me, it takes years to fully understand the nuances of military packaging and its many specifications,” says Paul Vieira. “As someone who has dug into this process time and again, you must stringently follow mil-spec requirements. And you must take the time to do it correctly, or you won’t get a second chance.”

Mr. Vieira leads the SPS team in mil-spec packaging. Working directly with prime contractors and government agencies, SPS has mastered the task of Mil Spec. Mr. Vieira collaborated on this Web site, and it offers help in understanding the implications of military packaging and procedures.
